Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This policy explains how UMTS Labs handles the personal data of people who visit umtslabs.com or contact us through it. UMTS Labs is the Artificial Intelligence department of UMTS - Consultadoria e Gestão de Telecomunicações, Lda.
1. Who is the data controller
The controller of your personal data is:
- UMTS - Consultadoria e Gestão de Telecomunicações, Lda. (UMTS Labs brand)
- Portuguese tax number (NIF): 506926656
- Address: Rua Marcelino Mesquita nº 7, 2840-195 Seixal, Portugal
- Email for privacy matters: geral@umtslabs.com
2. What data we collect and how
Contact form
Name, email, phone, company, solution of interest and the message you write. We also record the IP address, browser and date of the request, to prevent abuse.
Voice assistant (Rita)
When you start a conversation, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone. Audio is streamed in real time to the artificial intelligence service that generates the answers and is converted to text to show the transcript on screen. We do not store audio recordings on our servers.
If you give us your details during the conversation (for example name, phone, email or company tax number) in order to be contacted, those details and the conversation transcript are sent to our team by email.
Calculator and content requests
Name and email, when you provide them to receive a simulation or a document. We also record the IP address and the date of the request, to prevent abuse.
Browsing data
Pages visited, language, referring page, screen resolution and browser type. In our internal statistics the IP address is not stored: it is converted into a daily identifier that cannot be used to identify you. The web server's technical logs keep the IP address for a maximum of 14 days, for security reasons.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used. These cookies are only set if you accept them in the notice shown on your first visit; if you reject, Google Analytics is not loaded and the site works the same way.
- _ga and _ga_<ID> (Google Analytics) — distinguish visitors and sessions; last up to 2 years.
In the browser's local storage we keep only your cookie choice (renewed every 6 months) and your language preference. These are necessary for the site to work and are not used to identify you.
You can change your choice at any time: change cookie preferences.
3. Why we use the data and on what legal basis
- Answering contact, demo or proposal requests — pre-contractual steps at your request.
- Providing the voice assistant service — necessary to give you the answer you ask for; microphone use always depends on your permission.
- Sending the simulation or content you asked for — at your request.
- Measuring and improving the site — our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and, for analytics cookies, your consent.
- Security and abuse prevention — our legitimate interest in protecting the site.
- Complying with legal obligations — where the law requires it.
Providing your data is always voluntary. To be able to answer you we need, at a minimum, your name and a contact; without them we cannot follow up on your request. The other fields are optional.
We do not make decisions with legal effects about you by solely automated means, we do not build profiles and we do not sell your data.
4. Who we share data with
Data is accessed by the UMTS staff who need it to answer you. We also use service providers that process it on our behalf:
- Google — artificial intelligence service that processes voice and generates the assistant's answers, Google Analytics and the site's fonts.
- Hosting provider — the servers where the site runs.
- Email providers — to receive and answer your requests.
We may also disclose data to public authorities where the law requires it.
5. Transfers outside the European Economic Area
Some of these providers, Google in particular, may process data outside the European Economic Area. In those cases the transfer relies on the safeguards set out in the GDPR, such as European Commission adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
6. How long we keep data
- Contact requests and details given to the assistant — while the request is being handled and for up to 24 months after the last contact, unless you become a customer.
- Browsing statistics — in aggregated or pseudonymised form, for up to 14 months.
- Server technical logs (which include the IP address) — up to 14 days.
After these periods the data is deleted or anonymised, except where the law requires it to be kept longer.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR you may at any time ask us to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict or object to its processing, and request its portability. Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it without affecting processing already carried out.
To exercise any of these rights write to geral@umtslabs.com. We reply within one month at most.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority, Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), at www.cnpd.pt.
8. Social networks and the "UMTS LABS Automation" application
UMTS Labs has pages on social networks such as LinkedIn. When you interact with us on those platforms, the processing of your data is also governed by each platform's own privacy policy.
We use our own application, UMTS LABS Automation, connected to the LinkedIn API, for the sole purpose of publishing content on our own company page. This application does not collect, store or share personal data of LinkedIn members, and is not used to send messages or to contact people.
9. Security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access control and backups. No system is infallible, but we work to reduce the risks.
10. Minors
The site and our services are intended for companies and professionals. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the site or to the law. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page.
